In 1889 James L. Phillips founded the Phillips Memorial Home and began a Massena tradition of compassion, dignity, and service, a tradition that his son, James W. Phillips, continued for decades.

In 1972, David A. Frary began a one year residency under the direction of James W. Phillips. After earning his degree in mortuary science and receiving his license as a funeral director, Mr. Frary began working for Phillips Memorial Home, and confirmed that his calling lie in easing the burdens of the bereaved.

Six and half years later in 1978, Mr. Frary purchased both Massena and Waddington branches, expanding over the next ten years with the additions of the Regan Funeral Chapel in Massena, NY and Faye G. Mann Funeral Home in Madrid, NY.

By Preserving the Phillips name, we have been able to express a long standing devotion and gratitude to our community and it's history. In 2003, we were honored with recognition as Massena's oldest continuing business.
