Barbara L. Carkner, 86, passed away on Dec. 26, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family and the care of Hospice. Bobbie as she was fondly known by was born on August 29, 1926 in Canton, NY the daughter of Edward and Marguerite (Ward) Bushaw. She attended Madrid Schools and married H. Bernard “Bernie” Carkner on October 19, 1946 in St. John’s Rectory. Mr. Carkner predeceased her on Dec. 29, 2011, after 65 years of marriage. She worked at Holmes Grocery Store in Madrid, NY for 30 years. Bobbie was a member of St. Johns Altar Rosary Society, Seaway Valley Senior Citizens, Madrid American Legion Auxiliary #1513, she was a communicant of St. John’s the Baptist Church in Madrid, NY. Bobbie enjoyed crocheting and tending to her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Timothy P. of Burke, NY: Loretta L. Carkner of Norwood, NY, John B. and wife Silindia of Walworth, NY: Thomas E. and wife Michelle of Madrid: seven grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, a brother Ward Bushaw of Robertsdale, AL, a brother in-law Jerry Haney of Madrid, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Kenneth Carkner in 1980 and a daughter Gretchen L. Carkner in 2003, and sisters, Helen Cline, Jean Dodd, Irene Kirby, and Betty Haney.
