Smith, 76 of West Ave, passed away Tuesday Dec. 18, 2012 at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT surrounded by her sons. Jean was born on March 20, 1936 in Bronxville, NY the daughter of Rudy and Annette (Hauser) Adler. Jean graduated from Crane School of Music Potsdam State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. Jean taught music at St. Lawrence Central retiring in 1991. She married John "Jack" B. Smith on October 14, 1955 in Bronxville, NY. Mr. Smith predeceased her on May 23, 2008. Jean is survived by her two sons; Steven and wife Sandra of Atherton, CA, Michael and fiancée Cyndy Martel of Atlanta, GA, three granddaughters; Sarah Smith of Oklahoma City, Payton and Reagan Smith both of Atherton, CA. Jean was predeceased by two sons Gary and Jeffery. Jean was an avid golfer where she was a member at the Massena Country Club. Following her retirement Jean enjoyed gardening and volunteering her time at the St. Regis Nursing Home where she played the piano and cared for the nursing home plants. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at 8:30 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Friends and family may be received on Friday Dec. 21, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm until the time of the funeral.
