Victor R. Castanier, 86, of County Route 36, Chase Mills, passed away on April 16, 2012, at his home under the care of his loving family and hospice. Victor proudly served in the Canadian Army, where he earned a medal for being a prisoner of war in Germany. He was employed at Alcoa as a brick layer/mason for 24 years. He married Theresa Desjardins on September 1, 1947 at the Church of the Nativity in Cornwall, Ontario. Mrs. Castanier predeceased him on May 5, 2000. Victor was born on December 10, 1925 in Morrisburg, Ontario, the son of Phillip and Herbertine (Bordeau) Castanier. He is survived by a son and four daughters, Paul R. and fiancee Cynthia of Conway, AR; Pauline and husband Robert Slyman of Massena; Lucie and husband James Bradley of Winthrop; Louise and husband Terry Thrasher of Chase Mills, NY: Rita Ladoceour of Saranac Lake, NY: 10 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was from a family of 11 children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Massena. He enjoyed deer hunting,fishing, woodworking and hockey. He was a member of Brick Layers Union from 1955-1992, Massena Knights of Columbus. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Lawrence Church in Louisville. At the family's request memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
