Obituary:
Chester S Dywan, 83 of 101Jefferson Ave, Massena died unexpectedly Sunday morning (March 7, 2010) at his home. Friends and family are invited to call Thursday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday (March 12, 2010) 10:00 am at St.Mary's Church with Rev Michael Gaffney presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St Mary's Sanctuary Fund. Surviving Chester S Dywan is his wife June, three daughters; Mrs. George( Marcia)Cox, Parishville, Mrs. Fred ( Monica) McLaughlin of Louisville, Mrs. Daniel ( Christine) Cecot of Louisville, a son, Nicholas of Loveland, CO, 12 grandchildren,six step grandchildren, one great grandchild, three sisters; Lillian Ruooco,Corning,NY, Mary Jones ,Sophie Kelly , Andrew Dywan all of Ninety-six, NC ,Zigmond of Massena, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dywan was predeceased by two brothers; Joseph, Theodore and a sister Jennie Downey. Born in Massena December 13, 1926 the son of Joseph and Jennie ( Mazur) Dywan. He was a graduate of Massena High School .He served in the US Army during WWII. Following his discharge he was employed at Alcoa as a Millwright until he was laid of in 1954. He joined the St Lawrence Seaway development Corporation and retired as a Shift Superintendant in 1980. He married the former June Laraby September 26, 1953 at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev John Pendergast presiding. Mr. Dywan was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1141 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1443.Mr. Dywan enjoyed reading,gardening and making and refinishing furniture in his spare time. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home
