Ronald V. LaShomb


There will be no public services for Ronald V. LaShomb, 59, of 90  East Hatfield St. Massena, NY.

Mr. LaShomb went to be with the Lord died  Friday ( May 1, 2009 ) 3:35 pm surrounded by family and Hospice.

He is survived by his parents Victor and Pauline LaShomb of Massena, sisters; Linda and Thomas Proulx and Louise Fregoe both of Massena, Audrey and Julius Anderson, Burke, Va. Dorthea and Keith Tyo of Morrisonville, NY, Adele and Robert Kalan of Mars, Pa, Valarie and Jeffery Munson of Massena,  brothers Darrell and Beth LaShomb of Newark, De. Jay and Claire LaShomb of Brasher Falls, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Ronald V. LaShomb was born June 29, 1949 in Potsdam, NY, the son of  Victor and Pauline ( Crump) LaShomb. A 1967 graduate of Holy Family High School and Potsdam State College.

He served in the US Navy during Vietnam.

He was a dedicated Fish and Wildlife Technician for 26 years retiring in 2004.

He was employed by the NYS DEC, division of Fish & Wildlife in the stocking program.

He enjoyed hiking and deer hunting.

A long time member of the Sampson Pond Club, an avid reader and had a deep interest in Physics.

Nancy L. Mahoney


A Mass of the Resurrection for Nancy Lantry Mahoney, 94,of Helena will be celebrated on May 6, 2009 at 10:00 am, at St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg NY. with Rev. Floyd Jerry Bleaux presiding.

Calling hours will be at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena on May 5, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. 

Mrs. Mahoney died at her home in Helena under the loving care of her family and Hospice.

Mrs. Mahoney was born in Brasher on June 9, 1914, to Barney F. and Mary McCarthy Lantry.  She attended Helena School and was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Brasher Falls. 

She earned her teaching degree from Potsdam Normal School in 1934 and began her teaching career in the East Part one room schoolhouse in Stockholm. 

She also taught at the Helena School and spent twenty-one years at the St. Regis Mohawk School in Hogansburg, retiring in 1973.

Mrs. Mahoney married Roderick J. Mahoney December 26, 1940 at St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg with Rev. Msgr. Walter Funcke presiding.

She is survived by one son and seven daughters:  Mary Ellen and John Slattery, Clayton; Jeremiah and Mary Carole Mahoney, Helena; Martha and Edward Hourihan, Noank CT; Patricia and David O'Connell, Massena; Nancy M. Murphy, Albany; Marcella M. Jenner, Weston FL; Barbara and Raymond Retzlaff, Troy; Lucille M. Carver, Manitou Springs CO; a daughter-in-law Lisa Mahoney, Charlotte NC;  twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was predeceased by her husband Roderick in 1965; a son, Thomas B. Mahoney, in 2008; two infant grandsons: Jeremiah D. Mahoney, Jr. and Mark D. O'Connell; a son-in-law Michael Carver; sisters Mary Patricia Barstow and Kathryn Derouchie; and brothers Henry B. and Jeremiah M. Lantry.

Mrs. Mahoney was a lifelong resident of Helena and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg. 

She was  a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Town of Brasher Democrat Club, and the New York State Retired Teachers' Association. 

She enjoyed gardening and reading. 

Her gentle and humble spirit will be missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services with full military honors for Charles R. Ware,  age 69, formerly of Massena, NY and currently of Chicago, IL will be held Friday,  May 8, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Rev. Bernie Menard   will be officiating the services.   Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery II in Norfolk.

Mr. Ware died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.

Charles is survived by his companion of 20 years, Thelma Francis, Chicago, Ill. Children,  Russell and wife Sue Ware of Albany, NY, Tina and husband Jesse Tyo of Massena, Chad and wife Lisa Ware of San Pedro, Ca.  Sisters, Margaret "Bunny" Cecot of Clearwater, Fl, Judy Murray of Massena, Gerry and Joe WIlson of Bedford, IN, Jean Jones of Canton, NY, Terri Flynn of Massena, Brenda and David Besio of Victoria, Tx.

Charles was Born on August 27, 1939 in Falls Mills, WV, son of the late Russell and Rachel (Williston) Ware.

Charles proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. He worked for Luther General Hospital as a valet attendant.

Kenneth McGee


Kenneth McGee, age 59, of 2 Washington St. Massena, NY went to be with his wife Dale on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.  

It was Kenneth's wishes to have no calling hours.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Bernard Menard officiating. 

He is survived by his children, Dori St. Pierre and fiancĂ©e Craig St. Louis of Massena, NY, son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Stacey McGee of Massena, NY. Grandchildren, Trevor and Jacob Keleher of Potsdam, NY. Jennifer and Cassandra St. Pierre of Massena, NY. Andy, Hailey and Aubrey McGee of Massena. Sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Jerry Castle of Massena, NY. Brother,  Jerry McGee of Long Island, NY. Several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Mary (Recore) McGee, his loving wife Dale McGee on July 11, 2008, and a daughter Sheri Lee McGee-Keleher.

Kenneth was born on August 24, 1949 in Massena.

Kenneth proudly served his country from 1969 -1973 in the US Navy.

He married Dale Charland on July 29, 1974.

He was retired from Reynolds. 

Mr. McGee was a member of the American Legion. Kenneth was an avid softball fan and  loved to go fishing, gambling and loved to joke and make people laugh, but  most importantly he enjoyed  spending time with his wife, Dale and his grandchildren.

Ronald N. Cote


Services for Ronald N. Cote,74 of Madrid will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mr. Cote died Friday( May 15,2009 ) at the Massena Memorial Hospital.

He was a retired building contractor.

Surviving Ronald N. Cote is his son and daughter in law, Norman and Kate Cote , two grandchildren, Alicia and Aaron all of Madrid, two brothers: Omer of Anaheim, CA, Raymond of Gilford, NH.

Mr. Cote was a self-employed building contractor for many years in the Madrid area.

Born  February 24,1935 in Laconia, NH  the son of Omer and Tersa (French) Cote.

He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War conflict. Following his honorable discharge he worked construction during the Seaway development.

Married Hazel Rains July 1, 1953 in Fleming, KY.

Mrs. Cote died October 12, 2004.

Mr. Cote was a member of the Potsdam VFW, American Legion Post # 1513, Madrid, Marine Corps League, Madrid Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a supporter and follower of Bill W. Memorials to the Madrid Rescue Squad or the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services for Lucille M. Crawford, 83, of 6 1/2 Maiden Lane Massena, NY will be held  7:00 pm Monday evening at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

Calling hours will be Monday from 1 to 3 pm and 5 pm until the time of the funeral. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

Lucille M. Crawford went to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family and hospice  Saturday morning (May 16, 2009), at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, NY.

Mrs Crawford had been in failing health for the past several months.

Surviving Lucille M. Crawford is a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Deborah ) Wagstaff, Massena, a son, Edward T. of Massena, eight grandchildren   11 grt grandchildren, neices and nephews.a brother Thomas Pappineau, Niargara Falls.a son predeceased John P. in 2003, a daughter Lucille died in infancy.

Mrs. Crawford was born October 11, 1925 in Chateaugay, NY, the daughter of George and Lucy (Andrew) Pappineau.

She married to John P. Crawford June 22, 1942 at St. Patrick's Church, Chateaugay, NY.

Mr. Crawford died April 11,1960.

Mrs. Crawford worked as a waitress in various restaurants.

She bartended at the Moose Lodge at one time and also at Grady's Bar in Massena.

She was a life member of the AMVets Post # 4, VFW # 1143 Auxiliary, Life member of the D.A.V. # 171, American Legion Post # 79 Aux, Past President of the Amvets Post # 4 Aux, Life Member of the Massena Rod and Gun Club, Massena Senior Citizens.

Members of the Amvets , VFW, American Legion Posts Auxiliaries will hold a joint service at 6:30 pm Monday evening at the Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Aletha "Lee" V. Harvey, 85, formerly of 1313 County Route 36 Norfolk, NY will be held Thursday May 21, 2009 at 10:00 am at the  Phillips Memorial Home, Massena, with Rev. Thomas Davis, Pastor of Grace Methodist Church in Massena presiding. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Massena.

Calling hours will be held  Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harvey died Sunday (May 17, 2009), at Blountstown Health Rehabilitation Center in Blountstown, FL.

She had been living in Florida for the past year.

She is survived by her daughter  Patty and husband Raymond St. Louis of Massena, N.Y. Three sons, Larry and wife Shizue of Colorado Springs, Co, Gary and wife Vickie of Lake City, F. Dan and companion Debra of Bristol, Fl.,11 grandchildren and 22  great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, June Bancroft of Cornwall, Ont andFrances Harvey of Dallas, Texas . Mrs. Harvey was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters: Richard, Wayne and Donald Patraw, Helen Locey and Dorothy Welsh, also her companion of 15 years, George D. Harvey in 2008.

Born January 28, 1924 in Massena, NY, the daughter of  Cecil and Annabell (Richards) Patraw.

She attended local Massena Schools.

A marriage to George H. Harvey ended in divorce. Later married Danford Harvey which ended in separation.

Mrs. Harvey at one time was employed as a waitress at the American Legion.

She was a homemaker, liked watching birds, reading, boating, puzzles and watching television.

Beatrice went to be with her Lord  Tuesday May 19, 2009, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, NY.

She is survived by sons Terry "Twig" Truax and companion Cathy Woodward, of Norfolk, Rodney Truax and wife Michelle, of Glenns Falls, NY, Tony Truax and wife Sheri, of Massena, Jeff Truax and companion Kris Whitcomb, of Massena, Danny Truax and wife Jolene of Massena, and daughter Tammy and husband Jimmy Ryan of Brasher Falls, NY. Two  brothers, Steve Mossaw and Paul Mossaw. Two sisters, Iona Rosen, and June Gladding. 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Bea was predeceased by first husband Robert Truax in 1981, and second husband. Earl Jocob in 2005 and a brother Jerry Mossaw.

She was born January  4, 1936 in Massena, NY, the son of  the late William  and Ethel (LaBarge) Mossaw.

She was a bartender for 42 years at Lil's Place, Winthrop Bar, New Albion Hotel, and currently at Winthrop American Legion Post 514.

She enjoyed being with people, her birds and watching her deer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bea's honor to the American Legion Post #514, Winthrop or Tri-Town Rescue Squad.

George died unexpectedly Wednesday May 20, 2009.

He is survived by his loving wife Susie Thompson; parents Harold Thompson, Sr. of Chase Mills, Frances Thompson of Massena. His son Jayson Thompson of Massena. Step children, Anthony of Norwood, Matthew, Joshua, Cassandra Van Guilder all of Massena. His brother Harold Thompson Jr. of Chase Mills, Mike Thompson  of Chase Mills, a sister Julie Thompson of Fitchburg, MA. His Mother in-law Gail Donaldson of Massena and father in-law Lee and Cathy Donaldson of Canton, NY.  His first wife Glenda Holton, of Georgia. Grandchildren Jayden Thompson lives in Georgia and Alex Thompson of Waddington, NY. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

George was born September 21, 1961 in Gouverneur, NY, the son of Harold and Frances (Patterson) Thompson.

George served in the US Army for 15 years.

He  worked for McDonald Construction as a Construction Worker.

He enjoyed mowing his lawn, making dream catchers, wood working, and spending time with his family.

Arvilla went to be with her Lord Wednesday May 20, 2009,  at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, NY.

She is survived by her children, Jennie and husband Douglas Richer of Manlius, N.Y., Marjorie Demo of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Robert I. and wife Linda Christie of Waddington, N.Y. 12  grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son Larry in1969, two sisters and two brothers, Ella Duguette, Mary Mundle, Jack and Theodore Price.

Born  June 29, 1917 in Madrid, NY, the daughter of the late Isiah and Jennie (Middlemiss) Price.

She married Robert Christie on January 3, 1938. Mr. Christie predeceased her on March 4, 1975.

She  was a groundskeeper at Coles Creek.

She loved to play bingo and take trips to the Casino.

She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Waddington. and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Cerebal Palsey, the Waddington Rescue Squad, and Hospice of St. Lawrence County.

Michael died Thursday morning May 21, 2009, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, NY. where he been taken from the Highland Nursing Home.

Michael had been a resident there for the past seven years.
 

He is survived by his mother Pauline Curran of Louisville, three children: Heather and husband David Krider, Andrew Curran and a stepson Douglas Morgan all of NC. seven brothers, Timothy J. and wife Jackie, Patrick J and wife Lori, Thomas E. and companion Carol, Lee R. and wife Marcia , Mark and companion Kelly all of Louisville,NY, William F. and companion Pam of Canadaigua, NY, Philip of Colton., two grandsons, aunts and uncles, neices and nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
 

Born in Massena September 10, 1953 the son of Michael J. and Pauline ( Cole) Graduated from Madrid-Waddington High School.

He was employed at one time by Butler's Pool company of Waddington.

During the winter months he was employed on the St Lawrence Seaway locks refurbishing.

For about ten years he operated Curran Carpentry.

A marriage to Mary Smith ended in separation.

He was predeceased by his father Michael J in 1999.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR, reading, listening to music and building furniture.

Mrs. Lashbrook died May 22, 2009 after a short illness at her daughter's home in St. Charles, Missouri under the loving care of St. Charles Hospice, surrounded by her family.

Survivors include twin daughters, Linda M. Scott, Massena and Lucinda M. Varnedoe, St. Charles Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Gina Myers, St. Charles, Missouri, Ginger Scott, Clermont, Florida, Todd W. Scott, San Angelo, Texas, Kimberly and husband Bob McKeon, St. Charles, Missouri, Tonya and husband Richard Krause, Brighton, Michigan and Timothy J. Scott and wife Susie of Buffalo Gap, Texas. 8 grandchildren: Sarah Myers, St. Charles, Missouri, Eunice Scott, San Diego, California, Megan and Michael McKeon, St. Charles, Missouri, Thomas and Wesley Krause, Brighton, Michigan and Emily and Avery Scott, Buffalo Gap, Texas; 1 niece, Virginia Ballou, Ogdensburg, NY, 2 great nieces Kathy Tessmer and her husband Matt of Ogdensburg and Robin Hoek and her husband Brian, of Bloomfield, Colorado; 1 nephew William Gokey, Ogdensburg, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband Percy J. Lashbrook in 1983 and one sister Bessie Gokey, Ogdensburg, NY on February 2, 2008.

Bernice was born January 18, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Mabel Fowler Durham in a log cabin in the town of Pitcairn, NY.

She attended Gouverneur Schools and Diberts Business School in Philadelphia, NY.

On April 19, 1930, she married Percy J. Lashbrook in the Morristown Methodist Church. They celebrated 55 years of marriage.

She started working at the Nature Dam Paper Company then later working on farms with her late husband Percy for a long period.

In the early 1960's, she inherited and operated a nursing home in Saratoga Springs, NY. She moved back home to Gouverneur and worked at W.T. Grant Company as a cashier until her retirement in 1968.

After her retirement, she moved to Florida for 12 years returning home in 2000 at the age of 90 to live with her daughter Linda Scott in Missouri.

She loved Law and Order and getting her hair done weekly.

She loved and enjoyed her family.

She will be well remembered for her caring smile and generous gift giving.

She was always taking care of others.

 

 

Robert A. Deshaies


Funeral services for Robert "Perp" A. Deshaies, 75, of 451 County Route 37 Massena, NY will be held Thursday at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Massena, with Rev. Michael Gaffney presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.
 

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.

Perp died Monday May 25, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice.

He is survived by his wife Verna Deshaies of Massena, his children, Daniel R. and wife Josephine Deshaies of Chelmsford, MA, Debralee and husband Dr. David Zysik of Massena, Diane and husband William Toth of Massena, Denise and husband Bob Holmes of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Step children Karen and husband Todd Ashley of Dryden, NY, Steve Matteo of Massena, 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Zysik, Aleesha Zysik, Erica Carnivalle, Nicholas Toth, Brittany Toth, Sean Deshaies, Emily Deshaies, Tori Holmes, Marlee Holmes, Robert Holmes. Two great grandchildren, Annika and Jamison Zysik. A step grandson Colyn Ashley. A sister, Yvette Carmichael of Phoeniz, Ax. Three brothers, Albert C. "Herb" Deshaies of Massena, James "Barney" Deshaies of Boonville, NY, Donald "Bub" Deshaies of Plattsburgh, NY. Several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Raymond "Beanie" on December 28, 1991.

Perp was born January 14, 1934 in Massena, NY, the son of Rudolph and Regina (Desgrosiellier) Deshaies.

He graduated from Massena High School in 1953.

He married Norma Brannen at St. Lawrence Church with the Rev. Wilfred Nugent presiding.

Mrs. Deshaies predeceased him on July 7, 1979.

He later married Verna Willis Matteo on February 26, 1996 in Las Vegas, NV. He was a well known Self employed General Contractor, of Deshaies Construction, for nearly 40 years retiring in 2003.
 

He was a member of Massena Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus Council #1141, Massena Rotary Club, 4-H Leader.

He was a youth basket ball coach. He was involved in Boy Scouts, as a scout eagle and scout mentor.

He was inducted in the Massena Hall of Fame for football, basketball and was a track star.

He played Santa Claus for various public schools for 32 years.

A sister, Lorraine Faucher of Massena. Nine grandchildren, 12great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. 

She was predeceased by a sister Mary McCarthy, and two brothers, Francis, and James Smith.

Mrs. Faucher was born August 7, 1919 in Louisville, NY, the daughter of the Albert and Pauline (Brannen) Smith.

She married Remi Faucher on September 10, 1938 at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Charles Flatterly.

Mr. Faucher predeceased her on September 3, 1994.

She and her husband owned and operated the Spirit Shop on Main St. in Massena, retiring in 1982.

Before operating the Spirit Shop, Mrs. Faucher was a buyer for the Boston Store in Massena.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. 

Thelma was an avid reader, and liked to play bingo, and liked to play scratch off tickets.

She was a very active member of the Democratic Party.

Funeral services for Tibor V. Bocskor, 68, of 7 Chestnut St. Massena will be held Monday at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in Massena. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, NY.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St. Massena.

American Legion Post #79 will hold a memorial service Sunday evening 7:15 at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Tibor is survived by his wife of 45 years, Darlene, his mother, Elizabeth, of Naples, Florida, a brother and sister-in-law, Vic and Joanie, of Naples, Fl., three nieces, Lisa and John Bartalo, Massena, Andrea Fuller, and Lori Bocskor of Naples, Florida, two great nieces, Ashli Bartalo and Makenzi Fuller, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Extended family inculded Tom and Michele Bronchetti, Rochester, NY and Christopher and Tonya Bronchetti, Syracuse, NY and their respective children.

He was predeceased by his father, Paul, in 2007, and two uncles Zolton and Steve Bocskor.

Mr. Bocskor was born February 10, 1941, in Massena, NY, the son of Paul and Elizabeth Bocskor.

He was a graduate of the University of Rochester with a Bachlor's Degree.

He received a AAS Degree from Canton ATC in Electrical Technology.

He married Darlene Bogdovitz on August 29, 1964, at St. Mary's Church with Rev. William Muench presiding.

During his lifetime, Tibor worked for Xerox in Webster, NY, St. Lawrence County Weatherization Program, Central Foundry, and was co-owner of Massena Tire at the time of his retirement in 2001.

He was active in the K of C Council #1131 and American Legion Post #79, having been chosen Legionnaire of the Year for 2009.

Funeral services for Sharon M. LaDuke, 57, of 6 Urban Drive Massena, NY will be held Monday June 1, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the  Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.

Friends and family may be received on Sunday May 31, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andews St. Massena.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the  National MS Foundation, 733 3rd Ave. 6th Floor, New York, NY 10017-3288. 

Sharon passed away Friday (May 29, 2009), at Massena Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her husband Timothy J. of Massena a daughter Brettany A. and companion Trevor S. Curtis of Massena, a son Aaron R. and companion Elizabeth A. Austin of Syracuse, NY. Two sisters, Kay Romeo of Massena, N.Y. and Phyllis and husband Daniel Love of Massena, N.Y. A brother, Paul R. Ashley and companion Carol Ann Thompson of Massena, N.Y.  Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A close friend Robyn Fuller of Massena.

She was predeceased by her parents, Josephine Ashley on November 11, 1992, and Clarence Ashley on August 28, 1975, her mother in-law Virginia LaDuke on May 4, 2004, and a brother in-law John Romeo Jr. on June 17, 2001.

Sharon was born February 29, 1952 in Massena, NY, the daughter of Clarence and Josephine (LaBarge) Ashley.

She graduated from Massena High School in 1970.

She married Timothy J. LaDuke on July 12, 1980 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Mgsr. Floyd Brown presiding. 

Sharon was  employed at one time for Siena College and later at Leaseway Trucking as a secretary. For the past 34 years she was employed at the village of Potsdam as a senior clerk until she became ill.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Sharon enjoyed her animals, and shopping.

She was very close to her family and extended family.

She enjoyed attending her families sporting events and dance recitals.

She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt and friend.
