David W. Dupray


A Mass of Resurrection for David W. Dupray, 54, of 34 Fenton St. Waddington, NY will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, Waddington with Rev. Mgsr. Robert Lawler presiding. Interment will in St Mary's Cemetery, Waddington.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington.

Mr. Dupray died Saturday  morning (April  4, 2009) under the loving care of his family and Hospice. He had been in failing health the past year.

Surviving David W. Dupray is his wife, Kathy, two sons and a daughter: Alicia A., Zachary T. and Noah H. Dupray all of Waddington, a brother and three sisters: Edward Dupray of Waddington, Mrs. Bruce( Susan) Griffin of Burke, Mrs Richard ( Maryann) Martin of Madrid, Mrs. James (Pearl) Oshier of Waddington, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant brother.

Mr. Dupray was born July 22, 1954 in Massena, NY the son of  Henry and Elizabeth (Kormanyos) Dupray. A graduate of Waddington-Madrid High School.

At one time he was employed as a laborer at Alcoa later moving to Texas where was employed as a carpenter for five years.

He married Katherine Badlam May 27, 1983 at St. Mary's Church, Waddington, by Rev Mgsr. Harold Shelly .

He was employed by Richard Herbert Construction and later was self-employed until he became ill.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR.

He was a woodworking and metal fabricating enthusiast.

He was able to fully restore a 1979 Jeep CJ I. Mr Dupray also was a classic car fan.

Martha Violi Romeo


Martha Violi Romeo, formerly of 233 Prospect St, Massena, NY, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2009 at 4:00AM.  Funeral Mass of  Resurrection will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Massena, NY.

Friends are invited to call Monday, April 6, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena, NY.

She was receiving hospice care at the Akron, NY, home of her daughter, Frances P. Romeo, and her son-in-law, Barry Jones.  She has resided there for the past two years.


Mrs. Romeo, known affectionately to both family and friends as "Aunt
Martha", was born on December 20, 1917 in Ambridge PA to Dominico and Rosa
Violi.  She met her future husband, Frank P. Romeo, while visiting relatives
in Massena, and eventually returned there to marry him on March 31, 1938. The couple lived with their large extended family at the former Romeo house on Romeo Avenue until 1972, when they moved to the Prospect Street residence. They were a devoted couple and until his death, no one spoke of Aunt Martha without mentioning Uncle Frank in the same breath.
 
Aunt Martha is survived by two children, Katherine "Kay" Rohe of
Albuquerque, NM and Frances P. Romeo, spouse of Barry Jones, of Akron, NY. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, - Dan Miller, spouse of Keilka Salsbury of Buffalo, NY; Monica Holliday, Frank and Michael Andazola, all of whom reside in New Mexico, and Ted Rohe of Sacramento, CA - as well as four great-grandchildren, - Anthony and Teresa Andazola,  Martha Rose Miller-Salsbury and Gavin Miller-Salsbury - along with nieces, nephews and cousins from New York to California.
 
Mrs. Romeo was predeceased by Uncle Frank in 1985, in addition to her 5 sisters - Josephine Veronese, Angeline Giorgi, Annie Russo, Marion
Catanzarite, Mary Carbone, and 2 brothers - Joseph and Ross Violi.
 
She lived in Massena almost 70 years.  During that time she devoted her live to caring for her numerous relatives, both young and old.  She will be remembered for her generosity, joy of life, devotion to her faith, concern for her family, and as vast repository of family history, which she shared up until the very end. And she kept the cleanest house in Massena!  She will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.

Dr Ronald L. Pratt died Saturday morning at the St. Regis Nursing Home where he was a resident since March.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's-St Joseph's Memorial Fund.

Surviving Dr. Ronald L. Pratt is his brother, Thomas W. Pratt , a sister in law, Irene Pratt both of Massena, three neices and two nephews: Mrs Jamie ( Janice )Crowe, Norwood, Eva Pratt of Odgensburg, Nancy Griffin of Cincinnatti,OH, Michael Pratt ofRaleigh,NC, Robert and wife Julie Pratt of Bay City, Tx, two grt nephews: Jon and Robert Crowe and a very special grt grand neice Akishia Crowe all of Norwood.

Dr Ronald l Pratt was predeceased by a brother Emmett in 1993.

Born in Massena September 8, 1931 the son of Titus and Eva ( Julius) Pratt. Graduate of Massena High School and earned his Doctorate of Philosophy from  Catholic University, Washington, DC.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War conflict.

He taught Philosphy at the John Carroll Universty, Cleveland,OH since 1962. He also taught at one time at Case Western University in Cleveland.

He later moved back East where he taught at Mater DeiCollege, Ogdensburg.

He was a member of the League of Sacerd Heart of St. Mary's- St. Joseph's, Massena Senior Citizens.

He was an avid reader and he enjoyed cooking and donating his well known delicious desserts away.

Helen went to be with her Lord on Sunday April  5, 2009, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, NY.

She is survived by a daughter and four sons, Cheryl Dishaw of Massena, N.Y., Stephen C., Michael D. and wife Donna, Joseph H. and wife Kim, Dale F. Dishaw all of Massena, N.Y. A close friend Jack Treptow of Hogansburg, NY.  A sister Dora Dishaw of Massena, N.Y. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews.

Helen was born November 20, 1938 in Massena, NY, the daughter of George and Ella (MacDonald) Reynolds. She graduated from Massena High School.

She married Charles Dishaw on October 25, 1958 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena with Rev. Jack Downs.

Mr. Dishaw predeceased her on October 20, 1995.

At one time she was a legal secretary for Attorney Lawrence Dalton.

Helen enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, crocheting and was an avid painter.

Funeral services for Theodore "Ted" J. Martin, 66, of 335 Buck Road Waddington, NY will be held Thursday April 9, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery II in Norfolk.

The Mason Lodge # 593 will hold a service at 7:15 pm at the funeral home.

Ted went to be with his Lord Monday April  6, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice.

He is survived by his wife Sheila Martin, three sons, Ricky L. and wife Penney of Richville, N.Y., T.J. and wife Alisha of Waddington, N.Y., Paul K. Martin of Waddington, N.Y. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A sister and brother, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) Luman of Mitchell, Ind. and Harlan and wife Gloria Martin of Massena, N.Y. Several nieces and nephews. 

Born October 29, 1942 in Potsdam, NY, the son of  Harlan and  Vivian (Safford) Martin. He graduated from Massena High School.

He married Sheila Bush on March 19, 1966 in Massena.

He retired from Alcoa after 34 years as a electrician, he started in 1966.

He previously was employed at Pratt Whitney in Ct. Prior the that he was employed at Caterpillar Company.

He was a member of the 25 year Club at Alcoa, Masonic Lodge F & AM # 593, past Grand Master. 

At one time Mr. & Mrs. Martin owned Martin's Pool Supply in Waddington.

Cathy P. Vida age 46 of 21 Urban Drive., Massena, NY went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center. 

Cathy is survived by her Father, Frank Vida of Massena, NY.  Brothers and sister-in-law,  Thomas and Aimee Vida of Cornwall, Ont.,  and Bill Vida of Cornwall, Ont.  Nieces and Nephews, Nicholas, Joseph, Hannah, Aidan, and Ellie Vida all of Cornwall, Ont.   Several Aunts and Uncles. 

Ms. Vida was predeceased by her mother, Pearl (Szarez) Vida. 

Cathy was born in Massena, NY on September 27, 1962 to Frank and Pearl Szarez Vida. 

Cathy loved spending time with dogs. 

In her free time, she loved to travel, go to amusement parks and take  countless trips to the mall. 

Cathy will always cherish the time she spent baby sitting or watching kids, especially her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her children, Elaine Fournier of Massena, N.Y. two Sons, Donald and wife Jean  and Gary L. and wife Shirley Brothers both of Massena, N.Y. nine grandchildren and19 great-grandchildren.  A half sister, Betty Jock of Moira, N.Y., half brothers Walt Jessmer of Dickinson, NY and Keith Jessmer of Florida.

She was predeceased by a brother Ralph Erlingson, and two sisters Alene Sabin and Gloria Marsh. 

Born May 18,1919 in Massena, NY, the daughter of  Ralph and Sadie (Richards) Erlingson.

She married Leeward Brothers on February 4, 1939 at St. Mary's Church by the Rev. W.C. McMahon.

Mr. Brothers died August 19,1966. 

She  worked for Puritan Clothing Store in Massena as a sales clerk.

Earlier she worked at Warner Brothers and later as a receptionist at Paul Fournier Realty, Massena.

He is survived by a son Joshua T. King of Massena, a daughter Desiree King of Potsdam, NY. A sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Debra) Debra Wells of Saratoga Springs, NY. A niece Kristen Wells of Berkley Ca.

Fred was born March 11, 1950 in Massena, NY, the son of Floyd and Josephine (Niemec) King.

He served in the US. Army.

He worked for Alcoa as a crane operator for over 30 years.

After retirement he went to work for Tim Alquire as a Taxi driver.

He was an avid New York Yankee fan.

He was very devoted to his son Joshua.

Mrs. Hodge died Saturday afternoon (April 18, 2009), at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, NY.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years Lawrence "Larry"  J. Hodge, a daughter, Ellen Hodge of Massena, two sons, James P. and wife Pam of Madisonville, LA, David F. and wife Betsy of Canton, NY. eight grandchildren  a great grandchild.

A sister Eileen Seeger predeceased her in 1978.

Mrs. Hodge was born July 4, 1935 in Massena, NY, the daughter of   Mahlon and  Margaret (McLaughlin) Collins. A graduate of Massena High School.

She was employed in the Shipping Department at Alcoa and later was a secretary at Massena High School for 23 years.

She Married Lawrence J. Hodge August 27, 1955 at the Church of the Sacred Heart by Rev Joseph Doud.

She was the past President of the American Legion Post # 79 Auxiliary, an avid reader, volunteered on the Blood Bank for the American Red Cross.

Finnie is her husband Carl, a daughter, Mrs. Kent ( Joy) Roberts of Massena, three sons; Dewey and wife Carol LaValley , Hal and wife Sue both of Chase Mills, Carl "Wally" and wife KC of West Point, Utah, 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, three brothers: Donny Nichols, Ronny Nichols, Malton, OH, Israel Nichols, Massena.

She was predeceased by a son Robert J. 1996, and two sisters.

Mrs. Finnie died Saturday evening  (April 18, 2009) at the St. Regis Nursing Home where she had been a resident since October 2007.

Mrs.Finnie was born May 15, 1933 in Waddington, NY, the daughter of Israel and Gertrude (Jandrew) Nichols.

She was first married to Leslie LaValley who died January 1959.

Married Carl Finnie on September 19, 1965 in Waddington.

She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, an avid reader, knitting and crocheting.

Mrs. Niles died Sunday morning (April 19, 2009) under the loving care of her family and palliative care .

Surviving Mary K. Niles is a daughter, Mrs. Thomas ( Nancy ) Curran of Milton, VT., two sons; Bruce H. and wife Joan Niles of Hamassa, Fla. and John J. and wife Cindy Niles of Potsdam, N.Y. five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Niles was predeceased by  two brothers and a sister, Kenneth and Robert Kelly and Eleanor Jenkins.

Mary K. Niles was born November  7, 1923 in Fort Covington, NY, the daughter of Henry and Maude (Glasgow) Kelley. She attended CCBI in Syracuse, NY.

Married Byron " Bud" Niles December 30, 1944 at the Presbyterian Manse in Ft Covington.

For 25 years Mrs. Niles was the office manager at Massena Central High School.

Mr. Niles died December 30, 2007.

 Mr. and Mrs. Niles enjoyed traveling for many years.

Gerald J. Ashley,  age 66, of 108 Stoughton Ave. Massena, NY went to be with his Lord on  Monday,  April 20, 2009, at the  Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg.

It was Gerald's wishes to have no Calling Hours or Services.  Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery II in Norfolk at the convenience of the family.  

He is survived by his loving companion of 22 years and wife,  Eleanor (Bogdan) Ashley of Massena, NY.  Daughters, Becky Henderson of  New York and Janie  Russell of Tennessee.  Sons and Daughters-in-law, Gerald and Lori Ashley, II of Norwood, N.Y. Step-son,  Thomas Snyder of Massena, N.Y.   Sisters and brother-in-law,  Janet and Doug Peck of Massena, N.Y.,  Gretchen and Frank Topa of Massena, N.Y. Brothers and sisters-in-law,  Lawrence and Theresa Ashley of Ohio, Charles and Janice Ashley of Montana;  William and Gretchen Ashley of Massena, N.Y. Several nieces and nephews.  

Gerald  was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Leona (Perry) Ashley.  Gerald was also predeceased by his daughter,  Terri Howell, Brothers,  James and Tom Ashley. Sisters,  Kathleen Rush and Marlene MaCauley.

Gerald was born on  August  8, 1942 in Massena, NY, the son of  Lawrence  and  Leona (Perry) Ashley.

He was employed by the Village of Massena as a heavy equipment operator.

Gerald Proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for eight years during the Vietnam Conflict.

Gerald was a life member of the VFW. 

In his free time,  Gerald loved to Hunt and tinker around the house.

Funeral services for John  "Jack" W. Horan,  87,of 247 Andrews St. Massena, NY will be held Friday ( April 24, 2009) 10:00 am at  the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

Jack entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning April 21, 2009 at Massena Memorial Hospital .

He is survived by his daughter Ann and husband Christopher Mazzella of Peru, N.Y. two sons, John J. and wife Gloria Horan of Massena, N.Y., William P. and wife Anne Horan of Livonia, NY. 11 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son Thomas in 1958, a sister Mary Cameron in 1992 two brothers; Robert in 1994 and Lawrence in 1997.

Jack was born July 13, 1921 in Potsdam, NY, the son of John and Catherine (Hourihan) Horan.

He graduated from Massena High School in 1939.

He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1946.

He married Gertrude Leonard on April 7, 1947 at St. Henry's Church in De Kalb Junction with the Rev. Parisian presiding.

Mrs. Horan predeceased him on September 28, 2004.

He was employed with Colonial Airlines at Richards Airport, Massena and  Ben Brown Jewelry Store., Massena. Later for Kaplan's Department Store.

He was clerk for the Board of Education, Business Manager at Massena Central High School.

In 1965 he went to work at SUNY Potsdam as Director of Computer Services, retiring on June 30, 1981. He was a Honorary Alumni of SUNY Potsdam.

After retirement he worked at Ken's Men's Shop as a clerk, later known as Mr. Daniel's Clothing Store.

He volunteered at Holy Family High School Cotillions. Member of Monday Luncheon Club. , Massena Figure Skating Club. Founder of Massena Squirts, past member of Massena Memorial Hospital Board and the Massena Housing Authority, Chamber of Commerce. Trustee of  Sacred Heart Church and choir, Parish Council, Knights of Columbus # 1141, Massena Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. # 1702, a volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul Society.

Ordetta is survived by her children, Alice and husband Donald Grant of Parishville, Roberta and husband Fredrick Wright of Potsdam, Judy and husband Richard Sitterley of Colton, Martha and husband Terry Billings of Canton, Cynthia and David Carroll of Canton. Sons William and Melody Sharpe of Madrid, and David and Rhonda Sharpe of Potsdam.  12 grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren. Sisters,  Beverly and Everett Sharpe of Madrid, Zelphia and  Frances and David Dudley of Auburn, NY, Several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters, Yvonnie Belle Klock, Lucinda Denny, Norma Klock, Martha Pedroza, and brothers, Bates, George, Henry, Morris, Donald, Franklyn and Fredrick Klock.

Ordetta was born April 26, 1923 in Antwerp, NY, the daughter of the late George and Edna (Simmons) Klock.

She married Sterling S. Sharpe on July 16, 1942 at the Waddington Methodist Church.

Mr. Sharpe predeceased her on March 12, 1996.

Mrs. Sharpe was a well known wallpaper hanger and cleaned houses for area residents for many years.

She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 47, member of Seaway Senior Citizens.

She was a member of Scotch Presbyterian Church of Chipman and Madrid Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

Funeral services for Diane M. (Brassard) Snyder,  47, of 13 George St. Massena, NY will be held Thursday at 8:30 PM at the Phillips Memorial Home, in Massena with Rev. J. Michael Gaffney presiding.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends and family are invited to be received on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7 until the time of the funeral at Phillips Memorial Home 64 Andrews St. Massena.

Diane went to be with her Lord Tuesday April 28, 2009, at Massena Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her parents Robert Lyons of Fl. and Dorthy Lyons of Massena. Her husband Michael Snyder of Raymondville. Her companion of three years, Clyde Barseof Massena. Her children, Mistie and husband Eric Baldwin of Massena, N.Y., Kelly Claffey of Norfolk, N.Y., Tracy and Tara Snyder both of South Carolina, David and wife Brandy Bressard of Massena, N.Y. Roy and wife FaithSnyder of South Carolina. Eight grandchildren, Preston, Isaiah, Hailey, Adison Bressard, Nathan Snyder, Caiden Kee. Brothers and sisters, Debra and Geroge Smith of Massena, N.Y., Danny and Joan Bressard of NorthCarolina, Dale Brassard of Gloversville, Randy and wife Linda Lyons of Massena, N.Y. Robert and wife Shelly Lyons of Massena, N.Y. Several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter Micole Claffey in  1995.

Born October 10, 1961 in Massena, NY, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Gardner) Lyons.

She married Michael Snyder, the marriage ended in separation. She was employed for Cerebral Palsy Association as a Home HealthCare Aide for seven years.

Diane enjoyed cookouts and sitting by the bon fire with her family and friends.

Bonnie L. Haney


Funeral services for Bonnie L. Haney,  59, of 690 County Route 54 Pennellville, NY will be held Friday at St. John's the Baptist Church at 10:00 AM  in Madrid with Rev. Msgr. Robert Lawler presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.

Friends may be received Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at at the Phillips Memorial Home 20 Church St.  Madrid, NY.

Bonnie went to be with her Lord Tuesday April 28, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.

She is survived by her husband Charles E. Haney; children, Michael and wife Beth Bouchard of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Virginia Haney of Macedon, N.Y. Carolee Haneyof Palm Harbor, Fla. Granchdildren, Taylor, Ryan and Dominick Bouchard all of Ogdensburg, Christianna Leigh Haney of Oswego, Alyssia Edward of Palm Harbor, FL. Sisters and brothers, Debrah Hill and companion Margaret Langley of Ogdensburg, N.Y. Richard and wife Elizabeth Hill of Chase Mills, N.Y., Joseph and wife Shirley Hill of Johnstown, NY,  Randy and wife Cindy Hill of Ogdensburg, NYLee and wife Debbie Hill of Waddington.

She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother Phillip Hill in 1985.

Born August 14, 1949 in Massena, NY, the daughter of Ralph and Ruby (Gardiner) Hill.

Bonnie graduated from Madrid-Waddington High School in 1967 and Massena School of Business in 1968. 

She married Charles E. Haney on December 1, 1990. She was a Town Clerk in Madrid for several years.

Most recently worked for Lee Memorial Hospital as a medical secretary.

Bonnie enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She also enjoyed to shop and going to garage sales.
